Toyota was started as a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works in 1933 under the leadership of Kiichiro Toyoda. The company was renamed as The Toyota Motor Co. in 1937.
Toyota released its first small car in 1949, at a time when American automakers were making only full-sized automobiles.
In 1951 Toyota introduced the world famous Land Cruiser. Toyota focussed on the quality of vehicles while keeping production costs low. It was at this time Toyota started to become a world wide brand synonymous with high quality of engineering and design. Toyota has become the leading automobile manufacturers in the world today.
